The genre of this story is mystery fiction. Mariella,
Violet and Poppy are the Mystery Girls. There is no mystery too mysterious and
no puzzle too puzzling for this team to take on. But even super-sleuths need
time off from solving mysteries, so when Mariella and Poppy decide to use their
detective skills to help fellow Mystery Girl and all round amazing baker Violet
Maple get into the TV finals of the ‘Bake or Break’ competition they seem like
an unstoppable team. After all, detectives have to be calm and level-headed in
all sorts of tricky situations. But mystery is never far away, and when the competition
is sabotaged by a cupcake criminal it is up to the Mystery Girls to find out
who is causing baking chaos. Mariella’s case book is a fabulous little read for
aspiring sleuths.
Besides, action is also the genre of this story. An
action story is similar to adventure, and the protagonist usually takes a risky
turn, which leads to desperate situations including explosions, fight scenes,
daring escapes and others. For example in page 106, Primula is trying to frame
Violet, and she had handed over a bag full of evidence to Marriella. Mariela
need to escape from that situation but she get caught. Action and adventure are
usually categorized together sometimes even as "action-adventure" because
they have much in common. An adventure story is about a protagonist who
journeys to epic or distant places to accomplish something. Mariella Mystery
Investigates: The Cupcake Condrum is an action-adventure story because the
Mystery Girls has a mission which is they must find out who stole Violet’s
Grandma Maple’s recipe book. The protagonist has a mission and faces obstacles
to get to his destination. In this story Mariella was framed for sabotaging the
Bake or Break competition so Poppy and her need to pretend to be official
mascots. They need to try and sneak in to the competition to solve the mystery.
Lastly, this story is humorous. It means a fiction full of
fun, fancy, and excitement, meant to entertain readers. Humorous is a story
that tells about a series of funny or comical events, intended to make the
audience laugh. It is a very open genre, and thus crosses over with many other
genres on a frequent basis. This story have many hilarious terms such as
‘Whatdunuits’, ‘Whydunits’, ‘Maple Meltdown’ and many more. Not just that the
illustrations in the book pages are also full of fun and excitement which will
not be a boring book to read.
